Hodgson ran away to sea at a age of baker's dozen & at length served in the Merchant Marine. When the "body-building" business venture failed he decided to trend lines himself by writing. His early works, "The Voice in the Night" & ''The Boats of the 'Glen Carrig''', were based on his experiences at sea.

Hodgson's works come mainly of the 'occult' or even 'horror' modes.
